Local Election 2008
West Middleton Ward
157 Windermere Road
As Terry Smith, I am asking for the Privilege of your vote, because I can guarantee you that I will work for this community, our community, as I always have done by making sure that every body gets the benefit of any opportunities that are here now and those that become available in the future. Don’t forget that this is my community too, it’s my children’s community, grand children’s community, extended families community and lots of my friends live here too.
I am asking you to step back and look at the Labour Party as it is today and not as it was in bygone days when it truly represented the working classes, because that Party no longer exists. This is why I joined the Liberal Democrats because I truly believe that they will fill that gap that the Labour Party has abandoned.
I believe that fair and just competition is healthy, but at the moment you have three sitting Labour Councillors, so if you are not happy in what they are doing who do you go and see. Well if you vote for me ‘Terry Smith’, and you give me the privilege of being your local councillor, that will put the two remaining Labour Councillors on their toes. Because they will know that if they do not produce, then I will. Then I can guarantee you that they will beat down your door to solve your problems, if only on the grounds of trying to undermine myself ‘Terry Smith’. And if you feel that I have failed you then you can go to your local Labour Councillors to keep me on my toes. And that is what makes good and just competition healthy for you. This can only benefit all of us who live in this community.
The results of my Crime Survey showed that crime and the fear of it is rising in Middleton. If elected I will continue to campaign for more police on the streets of Middleton. The Liberal Democrats are already putting more police on the streets of Middleton and I will campaign for even more. I will also campaign to extend the opening hours at Middleton Police Station.
Sometimes you have to make a decision that is best for you and your family and future generations. That is what I am asking from you today. And by voting for me Terry Smith and the Liberal Democrats - you will be putting your family first.
I will do all I can to make sure that people who live in our community will be prioritised for homes it is to do with common sense and fairness. And only when houses are available in this community which are not needed should they be offered to other families who are in need.
