My reason for standing for Middleton Independents Party in Middleton West Ward is simple. Like all the others in our group we are bitterly disappointed by the lack of any meaningful investment in our town by Rochdale Council. On two recent occasions a Rochdale Council Spokesperson has stated that we have had a Bus Station, built in 2005 and paid for by the then GMPTE and The Middleton Arena, built in 2010 and funded by Tesco. That statement sums it all up really! The building of the Tesco store has ripped the heart out of our town centre and sent many local businesses to the wall.
Rochdale Council has continually destroyed our green space for housing development to such an extent that the Healthcare infrastructure can no longer cope with demand. I personally am having to wait two months for my dental check up. We are calling for a halt on housing development anywhere in Middleton until there is an infrastructure in place to support it.
Whilst Rochdale Council have been destroying the green spaces in our town they have quietly signed up to the Clean Air Zone (CAZ) Tax even though they had the option not to! This tax will destroy so many businesses and add to the already crippling cost of living increases we are all suffering from. The irony being that in destroying our green space they have reduced the ability of the land to absorb the Co2 they now want is to pay for emmitting.
Our town is being run into the ground by RMBC and it has to stop and our group has the passion and belief in Middleton to fight for a better future.
