Local Election 2022

Andy Kelly

Andy Kelly

Liberal Democrat Party
Milnrow & Newhey Ward

Andy Kelly has represented the Milnrow and Newhey ward for eleven years. He is the leader of the Lib Dem group on Rochdale Council and is the current Prospective Parliamentary Candidate for Rochdale.

“The thing I am most proud of as Councillor are the small, everyday, routine things we do for local residents.” Said Cllr Andy Kelly. “Casework is the basic building block of good representation so as communication and technology has evolved over the past decade I try to be available through every platform I can- Facebook, Twitter, Email, WhatsApp as well as email, text and telephone. We still do regular surgeries so people can speak in confidence and in person.”

The Lib Dems have helped bring in tens of thousands of pounds into Milnrow & Newhey in that time- external funding for the skatepark, Ellenroad Mill, the brass band, our war memorials to name a few. We also support a range of community groups, activities and events. From Friends of Parks to Butterworth Hall, Milnrow Carnival and Remembrance Day, music festivals, sports clubs and uniform groups- we try to support and facilitate without dictating or controlling. We live here too.

But the exceptional comes along too. We helped out when Milnrow village flooded, we were up all night during the notorious ‘Beast from the East’ and we got over £10,000 refunded into the pockets of local people when we challenged a local parking firm who were illegally issuing parking fines to shoppers.”

Rochdale Liberal Democrats seek to build a council group that genuinely represents the people it serves, with open governance and transparent decision making. We are a grassroots party who believe in listening, consulting and communicating.

We believe in equality, diversity and inclusion and that you should be represented by people who genuinely committed to serving the public and not just dictating what they think is best. We have had over a decade of local Labour control. They take your vote for granted, and refuse to listen to people’s wishes and try to roll out grandiose projects such as the GMSF, the CAZ tax and various town centre development plans. They do not listen.

We are also living under a national Conservative government who break the rules they make, show no compassion for those most in need and are presiding over the worst cost of living crisis in living memory. Every vote for the Conservative candidate this year only strengthens Labour’s chances of getting in. If residents want to continue with three strong and engaged local councillors in the future then I urge you to cast 3 votes for the Liberal Democrats.

If you vote Lib Dem on May 5th then you are voting for a council group who put people, places and the planet at the heart of everything they do. We pledge to be community councillors who work on your behalf, to be available and accountable and to keep in touch via a variety of platforms.

Vote 3 times on May 5th. Vote for the Liberal Democrats
