Local Election 2022

David Bamford

David Bamford

Liberal Democrat Party
Milnrow & Newhey Ward

Cllr Dave Bamford is the great grandson of the “Rochdale Thunderbolt” boxer Jock McAvoy, who won the British light heavy weight title in the 1930s.

“I know what it’s like to fight for something. The Lib Dem group has been punching above it’s weight on Rochdale Council for a few years now and we definitely fight our corner in Milnrow and Newhey.” said Dave.

Dave Bamford has lived in the ward since he moved here as a boy. ”I live on Smith Hill in Milnrow now with my wife and two daughters. I care deeply about this area and  I love everything about the ward- its village feel, the countryside, the people who live here and the businesses, pubs and restaurants. Cllrs Irene Davidson and Andy Kelly and myself work closely to manage the casework you bring to us and we are constantly looking for opportunities to support community groups to do what they do well. As we slowly recover from the pandemic we are seeing new businesses starting in our village and there is a huge opportunity to work together with small businesses in the ward and I’d like to see a small business network developed.”

Dave currently works in civil engineering and has been part of an initiative to develop a system for resurfacing roads by recycling the surfaces almost instantly which not only reduces material costs but lowers the carbon footprint expended.

Dave’s commitments to you:

  • I will challenge and oppose the Greater Manchester Clean Air Zone Tax- despite current promises that it won’t happen now,  I am suspicious of the millions spent so far but am concerned that Labour will reinvent the plan much like the Spatial Framework plans to build in the green belt.
  • I will be available, transparent and committed to serving Milnrow & Newhey, with regular advice surgeries and site visits. You can call me, email me or contact me via social media confidentially. I will deliver casework promptly and confidentially.
  • I will make sure that Milnrow & Newhey gets its fair share of funding so we can get the basics right in our ward- repairing potholes, cleaning up grot spots, clamping down on dog fouling and making sure gullies and drains are cleared for example.
  • I will continue to be active in community events such as the Carnival, events in the park, with Ellenroad Mill and with local uniform and sports group

Cast 3 votes for the Lib Dems on 5th May.
