Labour Party
Bamford Ward

Thank you for reading my election pitch.

Please use all three votes for your Labour team

It’s a privilege to represent Bamford, as part of your Labour Team.

I am excited by the prospect of representing Bamford, Brimrod, Hooley Bridge, Oakenrod and Sudden. I am already in conversations with many residents regarding casework and discussing issues in our local communities.

I am retired after working many years as a tailor, mechanic and taxi driver. After being ‘black-listed’ from local mills, for defending workers’ rights; I worked as a mechanic and taxi driver. In all my work, I like to help others. Many a night, I would help people with their ‘social security forms or provide assistance to vulnerable people.

Recently, I have seen the impact of the cost of the living crisis on vulnerable residents. This election is important to tell the ‘Tories that the party is over.’ People have lost faith in their Government and Labour locally is on your side! By providing an additional £150 rebate on band A-D Council Tax, increasing the discretionary crisis fund by another £100,000, providing a new housing service that helps with all concerns, not just housing, removing the fee for household bins and providing free bulky waste collections.

I want to promote a clean, safe and vibrant Bamford that residents can be proud of.

Your Bamford Labour team always work to resolve local issues and to improve facilities in our area. In the last year, we’ve been working to make a difference by:

  • Introducing FREE bulky waste collections, and ensuring the local tip stays open until 8 pm every day to help tackle illegal fly-tipping - There is NO EXCUSE for these criminals. We will continue to innovate and do everything possible to reduce illegal fly-tipping by using CCTV and employing additional enforcement officers
  • The Labour Team has brought the Highways Contract back in-house. Providing more control over our maintenance and capital works. I have asked for Chepstow Close to be added to the resurfacing list and I want to see more investment in Brimrod’s roads, which has been ignored by the Tories.
  • I have already campaigned for future funding to improve our playgrounds. Young families are moving into Bamford ward and we have very few play facilities, this is not right…I will campaign for more outdoor play facilities.
  • Springfield Park has achieved its Green Flag award thanks to the Labour Council’s continued efforts to improve our green spaces.
  • When the Tories refused to feed children in the school holidays, we pledged as a Labour Council that no child should go hungry, and have supported families during the holidays
  • The Labour Team regularly work with the police and Community Safety to keep our area safe. Concerns around speeding have been mentioned on Bury Road Road, Bamford Road, Norden Road and Roch Valley Way. I have been told that these areas are now a ‘community concern’ and will be monitored frequently, even at night!
  • I am campaigning for funding for a new pedestrian crossing on Bury Road/Roch Valley Way, near the Cemetery Pub and am working with Highways and the police to investigate how we can re-engineer roads to slow down traffic.
  • I am a pensioner, I want to defend older residents within our ward and wider Borough. I am grateful that the Labour Council recognised this in supporting the war widow pensioners with robust Council tax subsidies.
  • The Labour Council has not shut a single SureStart, Community Centre or Library, even after being hit with £200million worth of Tory Government cuts.
  • All of Bamford ward needs a masterplan, for example, Heywood and Middleton have a plan... The ward needs a plan to protect green spaces in the future and promotes housing and business.
  • We are creating more opportunities for our younger residents by working with Hopwood Hall College to extend their offers in Rochdale and Middleton.
  • Labour is bringing buses back under public control, with bus and tram fares expected to be capped at £2 for adults and £1 for children
  • I will start local Labour surgeries in Bamford ward, especially in Brimrod/Sudden and increase social media presence with residents.

  • At present Bamford ward has very limited/to zero public transport! The Bamford Tories have never raised public transport concerns…

Please use all three votes for your experienced and hard-working Labour Team. As a team we will continue to push Bamford we have a great community that all three of us work hard for every day but we need your help at the election to continue doing this.  Please keep in touch with any issues in your area.  Three Votes for Labour Three Votes for a Strong Bamford Team
