Milkstone & Deeplish Ward
14 High Barn Close
I took a job in Heywood in 1993 and moved my family to Deeplish in 1994. We have been here ever since. I have been with my wife, Diana, for 29 years. Diana works for the NHS as a training and information officer. We have two grown up children.
I have worked in IT for the last 25 years in a variety of roles, currently I am a programme manager for a web design company in Manchester.
Since moving to Rochdale I have become a committed Rochdale AFC fan. In 2008/9 I completed a small personal milestone – attending every Dale game both home and away. I was also lucky enough to work as a match day commentator on Dale games for Roch Valley Radio from 2010 – 2013 and contributed articles about Dale to several football fanzine sites.
I want to be a Councillor for Milkstone & Deeplish because I care very deeply about my adopted neighbourhood. The potential of the place and its people is staggering. My firm belief is that the Council and its Councillors have a vital role to play in realising that potential.
My key areas of interest as a Councillor will be:
• Environment – talking to constituents it is clear that issues with fly tipping, litter and dog fouling in the ward do impact their day to day lives – it is often unclear how the council can help them with these things.
• Social care – with a specific emphasis on providing straight forward access to elderly and mental health care.
• Housing – providing genuinely affordable housing options for families and young people using sites within the town – and not making plans based on using greenbelt land.
• Procurement – ensuring that when purchasing decisions are made by the Council that local businesses get special consideration ahead of national and international companies. The money is better spent here and will do more good here.
