My name is Jean Hornby and I am standing for election again in Castleton for the Labour Party. I love Castleton, it has been my home for over fifty years.
My grandparents lived in Castleton, so I was a ‘visitor’ from being a young child. I came to live on Ogden Street -in what had been their house - in 1963, so I’m sure you will understand why I am so passionate about both the place and the people.
I welcome the new houses on what was the old Whipp and Bourne site and part of my remit as a Councillor has been to look for further house building. If we are to protect our Green Belt we need to utilize more of these sites.
My work on the Council to date has been varied. I have been kept busy covering the Health, Schools & Care Overview and Scrutiny Committee, the Clean and Green Committee, the Foster Panel and the Corporate Parents Board.
However, my main job as a Labour Councillor is acting first and foremost on behalf of, and speaking up for, the people of Castleton.
I hope you will again elect me as your Labour Party Councillor, to enable me to work for the residents of Castleton.
