Be Aware!

Just over 2 weeks ago I went to a community involvement day held in the Pennines at Milnrow Working Men’s Club regarding community safety, and how distraction burglary works. It was a really well attended event and even though there were some light-hearted scenarios it brought the truth home.
Yet these no good burglars are still hard “at it”, last night, 30/12/09, at 9pm two so called water board officials knocked on a door on my street, showed a badge at the door and the tenant let them in they said the water had to be turned off. As the person took them into the kitchen to do so, two others went upstairs through the front door to do the obvious, to help themselves!
On no account open the door at night no matter who they say they are, make sure before you open the door to anyone you put your safety chain on, do not let them in, remember badges can be easily copied these days, shut the door, do not release the chain and phone your water, gas, electric board company, whoever they are claiming to be, and ask if there is a problem on your street. Phone your neighbour and the police if you are in any doubt whatsoever.
It is sad I know but keep your doors locked at all times day and night. Until they are caught they will carry on, they have no guilt about the hurt and fear they have caused you.
Why would you buy anything from a stranger at the door? If you wanted a new service would you not go direct to the company?
These people prey on the vulnerable. Stay safe and ignore them, do not let them into your home.
DO NOT OPEN YOUR DOOR TO ANYONE YOU DON’T KNOW.
