Golf Club celebrates 100 years at Hopwood
Date published: 16 April 2012
The Manchester Golf Club was created in 1882 and moved to Hopwood 100 years ago on 30 March 1912.
Club Captain Bernard Stone (a director of Rochdale Online) officially opened the Hopwood 2012 Memorabilia Exhibition on Sunday (15 April) in the Hopwood Suite before teeing off with members in a friendly match against the British Collectors Golf Society (BCGS).
The BCGS players were dressed in traditional garb and used original hickory shafted golf clubs throughout the match. Manchester Golf Club members also used hickory shafted clubs on a number of holes testing their skills to the limit!
Club Professional Brian Connor, who has been at Hopwood for 25 years, kindly escorted our photgrapher around the course on one of his 'buggys for hire' to photograph what will form the beginning of the archives for the next 100 years of history at Hopwood.
