Milnrow unbeaten run continues with resounding victory over Werneth

Date published: 24 August 2015

Milnrow extended their winning run to four matches with another resounding victory, this time against Werneth CC, at Ladyhouse on Saturday. As with last week's victory against Heyside, this week's win was largely the result of another excellent display with the ball.

After putting Werneth into bat, all Milnrow's bowlers bowled tightly and with good accuracy and the Werneth batsmen were put under pressure throughout. Brown maintained his fine form with an early breakthrough when he had Walker caught behind for 0 and his growing new ball partnership with Brandon Diplock saw Diplock remove Entwistle for 4. Milnrow's bowlers continued to build pressure and Diplock and Wilkinson took three wickets each in total. Wilkinson looked in fine form as he picked up his wickets.

In addition, 14-year-old Jack Wynn gave further evidence of his growing potential with three late wickets and he is looking more at home with this level of cricket with each game he plays. Milnrow's tight bowling meant that Werneth were bowled out for 87.

Werneth's total never looked liked being enough and Milnrow reached it comfortably for the loss of only two wickets.

Professional James Price hit a quickfire 30 before being bowled and 16-year-old Danny Crompton, the latest of Milnrow's youngsters to get a taste of first team action, was trapped lbw for 0.

The experience of Steve Dryden and captain Max Power ensured that Milnrow were led home comfortably with both batsmen hitting positive shots to the boundary on both sides of the wicket. Dryden finishing on 17 not out and Power on 32.

Milnrow's players know that next weekend's double header is vital for them if they are to secure a place in the top division of the new Pennine League. They play Radcliffe at home on Saturday and travel to Middleton on Sunday. Two wins will see them maintain their momentum and challenge for a top two spot as the season moves towards its conclusion.
