Sailing: Hollingworth Lake Sailing Club

There were fewer takers for racing on Sunday (16 August) with several away on holiday. It was the turn of the young Topper sailors to win. In the breezy north east wind and rain, it was Daisy Fisher who won the first race ahead of Jasper Bramwell followed by Mike Smith, third, in a Solo.

With a change of course, the second race suffered from an erratic wind that came from all directions. This led to the Toppers keeping up with the Solos, unusually. Mike Smith decided he had enough of this confusion and Kevin Parry was surprised to find himself leading the race in his Solo, on the water. The two Toppers persisted with Daisy seeming to keep well ahead and then, after a flat spot, finding Jasper Bramwell on her tail. In the penultimate long downwind leg Jasper took advantage and gained the inside passage at the mark and then coasted to the finish line.

No one wanted to have another race so it was Jasper Bramwell who ended up as the leader on the day.
