Cricket: Norden battered by Crompton

Date published: 02 September 2019

Norden were battered into submission when they entertained Crompton at Stag Park on Sunday.

Denis Louis blasted 119 not out as Crompton ran up a total of 206 for two, and Stags were 189 all out in reply.

It was Norden’s third defeat on the bounce, and as they say – things can only get better.

Their fielding was below par; five catching chances were put down, and Crompton took full advantage.

Norden gained an early break when Crompton opener, Sam Rigby defended a delivery from Jake Sandham only to see the ball roll away from the bat and onto the stumps to dislodge the bails.

The only other Crompton wicket to fall came when stand-in professional Paul Horton was caught behind by Lee Crabtree after snicking a delivery from Greg Butterworth.

Louis hit 12 fours and five sixes in his 134 balls knock, while Jamal slammed 33 off 31, with three sixes.

Mashum Malik bore the brunt of a late onslaught, his nine overs costing 74 runs.

The reply saw Josh Tolley and Joe Humphreys put on 38 before the latter was caught.

There was never a collapse, but wickets fell at what, for Norden, were annoying intervals.

Tolley had 45 to his name when he fell to a catch, and Jake Sandham added only four before being given out leg before to a delivery which looked way too high.

Greg Butterworth was another leg before victim as Saif Bhojani pushed the score along nicely only to be bowled by Harry Dean on 59.

Lee Crabtree followed closely, having scored a bright 24, and the rest was somewhat inevitable.

Steve Pimm and Hashum Malik went cheaply, although Harvey Fitton and Dominic Humphreys offered some resistance before the end, Dominic batting down the order due to an injury.
