Rochdale travelled to the Fylde coast and comprehensively turned over a team they had been routed by last season.
From the first minute of the game Rochdale pressed high and gave the Fylde players nowhere to hide. The pressure led to Rochdale racing into a three-goal lead after only 15 minutes.
Fylde hit back with a short corner to make the score 3-1.
That just pushed Rochdale on and they added another four in the second half.
The Rochdale defence controlled the game, building the back and the goals coming from crisp sharp passing and tap ins from the forward line.
Goal scorers: Barry Gumbley (4), Dave Gowers (2) and James Shepherd.
