Castleton cage fighter Jonno Mears will fight Liverpool’s Ellis Hampson at the Full Contact Contender 22 at the at the Bolton Macron stadium in November.

Mears said: “My next fight is local again, this time at the Bolton Macron against a top guy from a top gym. Hopefully [this will be] my second Professional British MMA title, so please come support me and get behind me again.”

Mears previously made headlines during FCC 19 when he executed a submission never before seen in mixed martial arts on his opponent, Aaron Jones.

The hold is also known as ‘The Walls of Jericho’, after WWE star Chris Jericho, who uses a modified version as his signature finish. It has never been used before in mixed martial arts.

The fight led some to call it ‘The Bolton Crab’, after the fight location, or ‘The Bury Crab’ as Mears is originally from Bury.

Video of the submission was viewed well over a million times and Mears says the attention was ‘overwhelming’.

The father-of-two made his professional debut in 2017 against Will Cairns, winning by knockout in just 23 seconds, and has trained with a number of world-class coaches, such as Andy Aspinall and Simon Jackson MBE.
