Cricket: Rain closes interesting contest

Date published: 01 August 2017

Thornham's resumed league campaign, after a three-week hiatus and a previous defeat against title chasing Westhoughton, was brought to an unsatisfactory close by rain.

Thornham captain Collinge lost the toss and was put in to bat by the opposing captain.

Scoring was slow throughout the innings; Iqbal top scoring with a resolute 55 off 80 balls and McClure, batting at number three, making an eventful 46 before being caught at deep midwicket trying to bring up a half century in style.

Akram provided some fireworks deep into the Thornham innings with a quick fire 19, which included two sixes over mid-off.

Thornham finished 146 all out, at which point the heavens opened, which called time on what was an interesting match.
