Cricket: Norden progress in Tanner Cup

Date published: 26 June 2017

Josh Tolley took his batting average for the last three JW Lees Pennine League matches past the 300 mark on Saturday as Norden beat Saddleworth in a Tanner Cup second round match.

This time round he was out for 56 when the ball came off an edge and onto the stumps. However, by the time he was out Norden had 94 on the board chasing a target of only 120.

Jack Harrison was out for two, and after Tolley had gone, Thomas Booth fell for the same score.

The match ended with dad and lad at the crease. Dom Humphreys played some nice shots in his unbeaten 27, and dad Chris Humphreys was nine not out, eight of those runs coming off the last two deliveries.

The Saddleworth innings never really got going.

Brian Lord was caught behind by Ash Gowers, and Chris Hartley struck again when Greg Butterworth took a catch to see off Assad Ali.

Sam Holt and Imran Aslam tried to repair the early damage and took the total up to 66 before Imran got a leading edge and presented Naveed Zamurad with a return catch.

Daniel Poole was caught at mid-wicket by Hartley, then Sam Holt was bowled middle stump by Zamurad.

James Howard was trapped leg before by Greg Butterworth, Danny Hesford was trapped leg before by Zamurad, and it was 91 for seven.

Zamurad had four for 28 but was replaced at the Woodhouse Lane end by Simon North who demolished the tail end with three for three.

Sharif was caught by Greg Butterworth, Steven Howard was bowled middle stick, and Jack Boyle saw his middle stump uprooted.
