Cricket: Humphreys late wickets help Norden pick up points at Monton and Weaste

Date published: 19 June 2017

Dominic Humphreys picked up two late wickets to ensure Norden collected five points from their away match against Monton and Weaste on Saturday.

Norden were by that stage already assured of a limited win with Monton way off their target of 249.

Humphreys’ wickets proved vital, but the real star of the show, and what a star, was opening bat Josh Tolley who scored an unbeaten 133 as onlookers melted in the heat.

Steve Pimm and Naveed Zamurad both made starts before going to catches, but the score was then pushed along as Ash Gowers and Tolley took the total past the 150 mark.

Gowers was on 35 when bowled by Jake Sandham.

Dominic Humphreys added 15 before Stags lost a cluster of wickets to make it 193 for six.
Home hopes had risen, but they faded again as Tolley and Martin Smith plundered runs off some tired bowlers.

Tolley’s total included 16 fours and three sixes.

Furqan Shafiq and Joshua Lenihan gave the reply a perfect start, and 62 were on the board before Lenihan smacked a Greg Butterworth delivery into the hands of Smith.

Jake Sandham was next to go as Tolley took a catch, then home pro’ Wajihuddin was pouched by Chris Humphreys without having troubled the scorers.

Wickets continued to fall, but Joe Kershaw dug in and played some good shots before going into his shell.

Tolley took his third catch of the innings, and Dom Humphreys rounded it off.
