Cricket: Middleton Under 19s blast Lowerhouse in T20 game

Date published: 14 June 2017

With no game for the first eleven and the second team rained off, the only game to survive the weather on Sunday was Middleton Cricket Club Under 19s, who beat Lowerhouse away in a T20 game.

Opening the bowling for Middleton was James Tierney and Tom Rutter, the latter being a first team regular at Middleton.

However, it was to be the younger of the Tierney brothers who was to prove the pick of the bowlers as he ripped apart the Lowerhouse early order taking five wickets for 14 runs, inclduing a caught and bowled.

Tierney was well backed up in the bowling department with Rutter, Addison Holland and Jack Nolan all picking up wickets.

Run outs by Hussain Shahid and Rhys Tierney and a stumping and a catch by Leighton Le Carpentier left Lowerhouse on 75 all out.

Opening the batting for Middleton were Leighton Le Carpentier and Tom Rutter. Both departed cheaply leaving the Tierney brothers to build a partnership. However, just when they were getting in, they departed for 13 and 14.

It was left to Addison Holland and Aaron Eaves to hit the winning runs with Eaves stroking a couple of fours in his total of 14.

A good victory for the Middleton against a very good and competent Lowerhouse team.
