Rugby Union: Thomas Mills hat-trick helps Littleborough Under 13s boys to Lancashire Cup triumph

Date published: 09 May 2017

A hat-trick from Thomas Mills and braces from Nyall Hensby and Jack Bennetta lead Littleborough Under 13s boys to a Lancashire Cup Trophy.

The Littleborough Under 13s biggest game to date, brought out arguably their best performance as they romped him to a thorough 45-20 against a tough Tarleton side.

Pre-match, the game had been due to take place at Littleborough but was subsequently moved to Tarleton. That did not stop Littleborough taking full control of large parts of the game and being highly clinical in their finishing.

Littleborough scored four tries to Tarleton's two, asserting dominance from the outset with their strong tackling and clinical edge when in position.

Thomas Mills and Jack Bennetta took it in turn to trade their two tries a piece as Tarleton attempted to keep in touch.

However, Sunday was not going to be their day as Littleborough continued to move through the gears and sped to the trophy with another five tries.

Captain Thomas Howard dived over for the first try after the break.

Nyall Hensby excellently dummied the final defender to stroll in for his first after the ball was moved crisply through hands into the backs.

Though the Littleborough forwards laid a good platform for the backs, it was an afternoon that saw the backs steal the limelight after Thomas Mills had completed his hat-trick.

Hensby scored a try so good it has been nominated for the Samsung Try of the Month. A crisp passing opened up the space for the Littleborough right winger to make some yards. As he encountered a Tarleton brick wall, he popped the ball off to Hensby who handed off five players in a tight space, before sprinting clear of the sixth to slide in the left corner.

Littleborough had time for another try as Charlie Frost finished off a good team move, much to the delight of the travelling supporters and coaches alike.
