Momentum call on Simon Danczuk to oppose airstrikes in Syria

Date published: 27 November 2015

Momentum Rochdale, Heywood and Middleton has called on Rochdale MP Simon Danczuk to oppose the Tory vote for airstrikes against Syria in the House of Commons on Monday 30 November.

A spokesperson for the group said: "Cameron is attempting to drag us into another war without end. Another war that will lead to further civilian deaths and destruction, exacerbate the refugee crisis, create further chaos in an unstable region and with no clear strategy for success or exit.

"Bombing does not fix the problem of ISIL but will expose us to even more dangers and increased terrorist attacks. A unified and agreed settlement with key nations to ensure that its money supply is cut off, its weapons supply is halted, its oil is not bought and its bank accounts are closed would be far more effective by taking away the fuel which is fanning the flames.

"Iraq and Libya have taught us that without a clear strategy our actions could make things far worse.

"Simon Danczuk has stated that his mind has not been made up on this issue. We think that he should take into account the multicultural and multifaith nature of his constituency and the delicate nature of his decision on that electorate.

"We urge those against Syrian airstrikes to contact Simon Danczuk and make your views known to him."
