Heartless thieves steal valuable gardening equipment from Springhill Hospice

Date published: 30 July 2015

Heartless thieves have stolen valuable gardening equipment - two strimmers, a chipper and a Honda lawnmower - from Springhill Hospice.

It is understood that three men in a white Renault van drove to the Hospice at around 2pm on Wednesday (29 July). They then drove round the back of the Hospice and went into the compound and stole the equipment.

A spokesman for Greater Manchester Police said: “The break-in happened at Springhill Hospice on Broad Lane at about 2pm on 29 July 2015. The thieves stole gardening equipment, including a lawn mower, a wood chipper and a strimmer from a shed attached to the hospice.

“Inquiries are ongoing.”

To help replace the stolen equipment, the fundraising team have set up a fundraising page.

Community Fundraiser, Lillie Winterbottom said: “Since the news broke, we have been inundated with people offering to help and the support has been so overwhelming.”

Despite the loss of the equipment, the fundraising team will not let this stop their upcoming ‘Open Garden Day’ event on Sunday 9 August.

Lillie added: “The event will still go ahead. Nick and the team are so good anyway that they won’t let this stop them.”
