Co-operative staff threatened with a sword and a hammer
Date published: 30 July 2015
Thieves armed with a sword and a hammer threatened staff and robbed the Co-operative store on Sutherland Road, Heywood, at 6.00pm on Monday 27 July.
The offenders, who were clad in balaclavas, entered the store, one brandishing a sword and the other a hammer. They both went behind the counter and prised open the tills before stealing cash.
The intruder brandishing the sword also threatened a member of staff on duty at the time before both men fled.
It is believed the duo ran through the gardens between the back of Argyle Street and Gordon Way.
The man carrying the sword-type weapon was said to be white, about 5ft 7in tall, of a medium build and wearing black tracksuit bottoms, a black top with the hood up, a black balaclava and white trainers, he spoke with a local accent.
Thankfully, no-one was hurt during the robbery.
Police are now appealing to anyone with information to come forward.
