Karen Danczuk stirs controversy defending disgraced peer

Date published: 30 July 2015

Karen Danczuk has stirred up another storm of controversy on Twitter by defending disgraced peer Lord Sewel - who faces a police inquiry over The Sun on Sunday’s revelation that he snorted cocaine with two vice girls at his London flat.

Mrs Danczuk posted: "Obviously I don't condone the drugs but surely what man (or woman) do in their private life is their business, who are we to judge?"

The post elicited a barrage of criticism, one respondent said: "...what a ludicrous thing to say/tweet. There isn't any part of his activities over the last 20 years that you CAN condone! Serial cheater and not only with prostitutes and a drug user. I'm sure if he was your husband you'd think different!"

Another replied: "Despite saying the opposite, this tweet clearly shows you do condone drugs by defending breaking the law!!!"

Mrs Danczuk took issue and answered: "When have I made ref to drugs other then [sic] say I don't condone them?"

Other critics focused on Mrs Danczuk's assertion that Sewel should not be judged on his bedroom antics. One said: "...so its ok our taxes are payin [sic] for hookers so he can try on there [sic] bra and jacket?"

Mrs Danczuk has a history of controversial posts on Twitter, aside from the cleavage revealing selfies that have brought her much opprobrium, when her estranged husband, Rochdale MP Simon Danczuk, was revealed to have favourited a hardcore pornography image on Twitter, and subsequently confessed to watching pornography, Mrs Danczuk sought to defend her husband saying: "Is anyone seriously offended by a bit of porn favouriting?? Come on, if you're not watching it yourself you really need to. It's healthy."

Mr Danczuk, a prolific social media commentator who has admitted to previously having taken Class A drugs (ecstasy) and smoking marijuana, has made no comment on Twitter about the Labour peer's fall from grace.
