The Mighty Hikers raise over £1,100 for Macmillan

Date published: 25 July 2015

A group of friends who call themselves ‘The Mighty Hikers’ have raised over £1,100 for Macmillan.

Friends Karl Wild, Peter Whitehead, Gemma Bridge, Andrew Oldfield and Sarah Harris completed the Macmillan 26 Mile Mighty Hike to raise their latest lot of cash.

To complete the Mighty Hike, the group hiked along the Trans-Pennine trial in the spectacular Peak District National Park, on Saturday 18 July.

Speaking to Rochdale Online, Andrew Oldfield, said: “To be honest, it was horrendous but I have done something similar before so I knew what to expect. Gemma and Sarah found it hard, but they were determined to get it finished.

“We are really pleased with what we have raised so far.”

The group are determined to continue raising money for cancer causes to help fight the disease.

Andrew added: “We have all had personal friends and family members who have had cancer and some have fought on and have survived, so it is an important cause to all of us and we want to raise as much as we can and Macmillan do great work and offer unbelievable support to people.”

The group previously raised over £1,000 for Cancer Research last year after completing a ‘dryathlon’.

Now, they hope to continue with more fundraising throughout the year.

“We have a few more events booked in so hopefully we can keep raising as much money as possible,” added Andrew.
