Extra Care scheme brings new era

Date published: 17 July 2015

The borough’s first purpose-built Extra Care scheme has opened to mark a defining moment in the way that older people are supported to lead independent lives.

RBH’s flagship Extra Care project, Hare Hill in Littleborough, was officially opened at a special ceremony by Simon Danczuk MP.

The pioneering scheme includes 41 two-bedroom and two one-bedroom self-contained apartments as well as a community café, hair salon, lounge, hobbies room and beautiful gardens near to Littleborough village and Hare Hill Park.

With the help of a dedicated care team and a range of hi-tech equipment, residents are able to retain their independence with the reassurance that support is available whenever needed.

In line with RBH’s mutual ethos the official opening involved residents, tenant and employee representatives, the council and partners supporting the development and tenants who had helped advise on the design. With entertainment by local school children and the sun shining there was a real party atmosphere.

Noel Chambers, Chairman of RBH Board, said: “I am delighted that this wonderful new facility is now open to support residents across the borough.

“As a mutual society RBH has consulted with our customers and partners over the design of the scheme and we are very proud of the result.”

RBH’s new Extra Care scheme is available to residents across the borough with the appropriate care needs.

It is run in partnership with Rochdale Borough Council who have appointed a care provider.

Councillor Richard Farnell, Leader of Rochdale Borough Council, said: “This fantastic new facility will improve the lives of older and vulnerable residents in our borough by helping them to stay independent for longer in this home from home.

“I’m sure Hare Hill will be a well-used and valuable community facility for years to come.”
