Anger and upset over prom cancellation by Oulder Hill Community School

Date published: 27 June 2015

Parents and students of Oulder Hill Community School have been left angry and upset after staff decided to cancel the Year 11 prom.

Students have been left stunned at the decision, which was taken by staff members after what was described as an “incident” took place on Tuesday (23 June).

It is understood that the incident that the school refers to was an egg, flour and foam fight that took place following the leaver’s assembly.

A frustrated parent who contacted Rochdale Online said: “I believe flour and eggs were thrown at some sort of leaver’s assembly and a teacher got caught in the crossfire – don’t know if it was deliberate. There are a lot of p****d off parents.”

One student who contacted Rochdale Online said: “They cancel it once everyone has paid £100+ for suits and dresses and people have hired cars. We want the prom because it’s our last thing before we leave. We want our prom back.”

Other students took to social media to vent their frustration with one saying: “Oulder Hill is an actual joke.”

Another said: “It’s actually so pathetic that Oulder Hill have cancelled the prom.”

Another added: “Can’t believe that Oulder Hill have actually cancelled prom for this year’s year 11s. How sad can they get?”

The prom was due to be held on Monday 20 July at The Riverside.

Oulder Hill Community School was invited to comment but did not respond to our request.
