Our priorities remain reducing anti-social behaviour across all communities especially with the recent weather changing for the better. The team will be carrying out patrols in our parks and other public places during the summer evenings, to ensure youngsters stay safe when out and about.

Positive action will be taken against those caught causing any anti-social behaviour and officers hope to use restorative justice to deal with offenders where appropriate. Officers will continue to carry out regular patrols and speak to those found to be causing a nuisance in the area. With this in mind, Hare Hill Park is still a location in which we are monitoring over the weekend, we are also monitoring Wasp Mill Drive.

Two of Rochdale East's most wanteds have been arrested this week; one  for Section 18 assault, and the other was for theft from a motor vehicle and burglary.

A drugs warrant was successfully executed in the Wardle area where drugs with over £250,000 street value were recovered. This was part of Operation Olympus week of action.

As part of Operation Olympus 16 arrests were also made as part of an initiative to capture wanted persons on the division. Rochdale officers supported by specialist resources executed search warrants whilst also looking for wanted people on the Rochdale division.

Greater Manchester Police stopped 170 vehicles in a day of action targeting vehicles committing offences

On Wednesday 24 June, Rochdale divisional police officers and partner agencies were involved in a crackdown conducting roadside checks.

As part of the operation the below offences were committed.

  • 12 Prohibition notices issued to commercial vehicles by VOSA.
  • One commercial vehicle overweight
  • Six vehicles seized for S165 RTA, no insurance. One being a City of Salford Taxi with a passenger in the vehicle.
  • Two drivers found to be working and claiming benefits. They will be invited for an interview in relation to the offence.
  • Two taxi plates removed by licencing for offences.
  • Three DVLA no tax seizures.
  • Nine tickets for seatbelt offences.
  • Five tickets for using a mobile phone whilst driving.
During the operation Automatic Number Plate Recognition (ANPR) cameras were used to detect vehicles being driven illegally or having a connection with criminal activity. These cameras are used to scan vehicle registrations as they drive past and police are automatically alerted if the vehicle is linked to intelligence on known criminals.

The operation was geared to disrupting the illegal activities of criminals using the roads in the Rochdale area.

Criminals tend not to be over concerned about ensuring their vehicles are insured and taxed. Many are also unroadworthy and pose a real danger to other road users.

By targeting them in this way we are able to get them off the roads, make our highways safer for everyone and harder for offenders to commit crime.

Criminals can be assured that this is not just a one-off operation. We have patrols on the roads 365 days of the year and will continue to target criminals in this way. We are determined not to allow people to drive untaxed, uninsured cars on our roads in Rochdale.

In all, the multi-agency operation was a success to respond to community concerns over road safety.
