Simon Danczuk causes Twitter storm over 'sexist' tweet

Date published: 24 May 2015

Simon Danczuk has caused a storm of protest by posting a tweet condemned as "sexist" by critics.

Mr Danczuk posted: "People often ask what attracted me to the gorgeous 34E @KarenDanczuk - here's the reason", followed by a photo of a fried breakfast cooked by his wife.

The reference to the size of his wife breasts did not go down well, typical comments included: "Incredibly disappointing... this is the kind of thing we've come to expect from UKIP not Labour."

"You are supposed to be an MP, Sexist comments are not acceptable on social media from someone in your position."

Others were more forthright, for example: "What an absolute sexist *******."

"This is superb - we really need some more reasons to feel disappointed in Labour. Excellent work, you sexist ******* horror."

Mr Danczuk explained the post was intended as a joke saying: "Post-modern humour espoused by centre-left politician & all hell breaks loose!"

Whilst that sentiment did gain him the backing of some, for example: "...guess you've fallen foul of the gender equality brigade. Lighten up people!"

Others were not prepared to accept his explanation: "Except it's not post modern, it's grimly sexist and objectifying."

Mrs Danczuk was unperturbed and backed her husband posting: "Jeez lighten up peeps!! It's a joke." And added: "Love the way crazy feminist are taking offence at a joke aimed at me! Lighten up. Take your offence elsewhere & stop making society boring."
