Your views wanted on keeping council services fair for all

Date published: 22 May 2015

The annual ‘Equalities Listening Event’ is a chance for people to give their views about how council services are being delivered in the borough.

Residents will be given the chance to have their say on how easy it is to access council services and suggest ideas to improve the way they are delivered.

The event will allow local people to comment on any barriers to accessing services and securing employment which may be faced by men, women, younger people, older people, people with disabilities, people with caring responsibilities, LBGT and those from black and ethnic minority communities.

The feedback session is part of the council’s commitment to ensuring that everyone is treated fairly and to make sure residents get a say in how council services are run. The event is held to complement work done all year round to improve services by listening to user feedback.

Councillor Dalaat Ali, Cabinet Member for Neighbourhoods and Community, said the council listens and wants to make sure services are sensitive to the needs of all communities: “It’s vital that we listen to the opinions and thoughts of local people about the services we provide.

"We want to help make the council better for everyone and feedback from events such as this helps to shape what we do and how we do it.

"Everyone is welcome to come along and share their thoughts.

"We’ll also use the event to share more of the improvements we have already made following input from residents.”

The Equalities Listening Event takes place at the Middleton Arena on Tuesday 16 June between 10am and 2pm, with registration from 9.15am.

It’s free to attend and a light lunch will be served. There will be a live performance by the Carers' Choir, and poetry reading from Norman Warwick (Just Poets).
