Residents frustrated with lack of help on Turf Terrace
Date published: 19 May 2015
Residents living on Turf Terrace, Shore, are frustrated with Rochdale Council and the lack of help with the state of their road.
One resident, who did not want to be named, contacted Rochdale Online and said that when her husband bought their property, there was a reduction in council tax because the road was unadopted.
Then, when poll tax was introduced, the owner was expected to pay triple the amount with no extra benefits or street repairs. When poll tax was axed, the property became band A, but those living in the property state that they did not receive the same privileges as other band A properties.
The resident added: “We are expected to tarmac and maintain flags, kerbs and drains at the front of our own house. This we have done but many others haven’t.”
It is understood that one resident on the road has had a collapsed drain outside of their property for over 20 years and refuses to do anything about it.
The resident added: “I have personally damaged two cars on the collapsed drain in five years. Two years ago we had a letter through the door saying that by law, all drains had to be adopted, yet nothing has been done to improve it.
“The road is so bad that taxis refuse to drive up here. This is a major problem for when my 80-year-old mother comes to visit.”
Rochdale Council did not respond to a request for comment.
