Parking concerns in Littleborough

Date published: 17 April 2015

Littleborough Neighbourhood Forum says Rochdale Council has let the people of Littleborough down in relation to parking and traffic.

The results of a questionnaire issued by the Forum shows that residents have not been briefed on traffic proposals and parking and shows that traffic has mushroomed in the last 10 years.

Clive Jones, representing the forum, said: “Rochdale Council were warned over 10 years ago in the Littleborough Town Design Statement, which they approved for supplementary planning guidance, that there needed to be more car parking within Littleborough and outside, with a possible park and ride.”

Mr Jones added: “The Pennines Township approval of house building, against community opinion, has resulted in over 300 approved additional houses being built in Littleborough, introducing an additional 430 cars, which is guaranteed to exacerbate parking and traffic conditions.”

Mark Widdup, Director of Economy and Environment at Rochdale Council, said: “We always consider the impact that any new development will have on parking, road safety and congestion before making the decision to grant planning permission and, where appropriate, seek contributions from developers to improve the highway infrastructure.”
