Geoff Butterworth painting top prize in charity raffle

Date published: 27 March 2015

Shoppers are being given the chance to win an original watercolour painting by an internationally acclaimed local artist Geoff Butterworth worth £500.

Geoff is currently showcasing his work in a second exhibition organised by The Rotary Club of Rochdale.

During the show, he is selling tickets at £1 each to raise money for the NSPCC and is giving away one of his original pieces as the first prize, along with several prints for runners up.

Geoff said: “The painting I am giving away is a scene from Prickshaw Village near Whitworth and we sold 150 tickets for the raffle on the first day alone."

It is the second time Geoff has exhibited his work at Rochdale Exchange thanks to the involvement of his friend and fellow Rotary Club member John Kay.

John said: “This exhibition has given us the opportunity to bring some real art to the people of Rochdale and to spread the word about Geoff Butterworth.”

Geoff lives in Whitworth with his wife and took up painting professionally after a motorbike crash at the age of 22 ended his career as a welder and engineer.
