Rail services affected by engineering work

Date published: 28 January 2015

Engineering work on the railway between Rochdale and Hebden Bridge this Saturday 31 January and Sunday 1 February will affect rail services with buses substituting for some trains.

Richard S Greenwood, The Chairman of the rail user group, STORM has seriously criticised Northern Rail for the arrangements.

"On both Saturday and Sunday Littleborough will get just one bus an hour instead of two trains an hour. To reduce the service to/from Littleborough by half on both Saturday and Sunday is quite unacceptable.

"Rochdale will have three trains and one bus an hour to/from Manchester on Saturday 31 January. The bus will take 40 minutes instead of the usual train time of 22 minutes.

"This timetable has been dictated by Northern Rail Head Office in York and one can only conclude that their knowledge of, and interest in, rail services in the Rochdale and Littleborough area is sadly lacking.

"Time and again Passenger Focus has pointed out that passengers displaced by engineering work want the shortest possible diversion to bus services."
