Hospice to hospice walk - 14,500 steps to caring

Date published: 26 January 2015

Hundreds of walkers from Springhill Hospice and Dr Kershaw's Hospice will take part in the annual hospice to hospice walk on Sunday 26 April.

Springhill Hospice supporters will walk the circular 7.35 mile route, stopping off for refreshments at Dr Kershaw's Hospice in Oldham, whilst the supporters from Dr Kershaw's Hospice, set off from Oldham, calling in half way at Springhill Hospice.

Last year over 200 walkers from Springhill Hospice put one foot in front of the other in support of the 16 bed palliative care centre on Broad Lane, Rochdale, raisied £7,500 for the cause. This year, the Hospice team are appealing to supporters old and new to put on their walking shoes to walk the 14,500 steps for Springhill.

Lillie Winterbottom, Springhill's Community Fundraiser said: "We're hoping that we can smash last years record numbers, we're aiming for 300 walkers and asking our supporters to help us raise £8,200, the amount of money it costs to keep the Hospice doors open for one full day"

"This walk is a wonderful way for both hospices to raise much needed funds and awareness throughout both boroughs, Rochdale and Oldham and it also strengthens our ties with each other's hospices."

"As with the majority of Springhill's events, Springy the Frog will be at Springhill on the day and promises to meet and greet Springhill's supporters as they arrive at Dr Kershaw's too.

"On arriving back at the Hospice, walkers will be welcomed back to warm soup, special Hospice to Hospice Medal and of course, a Springhill Smile."

For more information call Lillie Winterbottom 01706 641790 or email Lillie.winterbottom@nhs.net or pick up an entry form from one of their shops, the Hospice itself or even pop in to Springhill Tea Rooms & Gift Shop at the bottom of Broad Lane OL16 4PG between 10.00am and 3.00pm.
