Date published: 14 January 2015

Andrew Caplen, Law Society President, was guest speaker at a ‘Question Time’ event held at Rochdale Town Hall.

Mr Caplen, a justice and legal aid specialist, outlined his priorities for the coming year, including access to justice, domestic violence and social mobility before debating the hot topics of the day. He was one of the co-authors of the Law Society’s Access to Justice Review and has written and spoken widely in the national media on access to justice and legal aid issues.

The Mayor Councillor Carol Wardle, was present to welcome Mr Caplen, and the event attracted solicitors and legal experts from across the borough and law students from Rochdale Sixth Form College.

The invited audience got chance to hear from the Law Society President and question him on a range of topical issues.

Pamela Walsh, President of Rochdale Law Association and Partner at Hartley Thomas & Wright Solicitors, said: “I was proud Mr Caplen was able to accept my invitation to visit Rochdale for the first time and give our members and guests an opportunity to question him on current topics and areas of concern that affect not only our members and guests but also the people for whom they act.

"The event was a great success, enjoyed by all and a historic moment in the history of The Rochdale Law Association.

"The President enjoyed the event and commented upon the challenging questions which had been posed.”
