Grandparents inspire Kate Carter to raise money for charity

Date published: 18 December 2014

Kate Carter has set out to raise money for the Alzheimer’s Society after seeing her nana, Doreen, suffer with dementia.

Whilst Kate, 18, from Whitworth, helped look after her nana with her mother and aunt, her nana had to move into a home for people living with dementia last year as her condition worsened.

Kate says: “When I found out about the Alzheimer’s Society, after helping look after nana, I really wanted to help, so I decided to do a sponsored walk to raise money.”

As a result, despite the cold weather Kate managed to complete the Alzheimer’s Society 10k Memory Walk raising over £200 earlier this year.

Kate is now on a mission to also raise money for Diabetes UK by taking part in a sponsored swim.

This is also a disease close to Kate’s heart, as her grandfather suffers from the condition.

Kate is keen to raise as much money as possible and so is in training, which includes weekly swimming sessions, to make sure she is in peak condition before the swim in February.
