Writers pitch short film scripts to a panel of producers

Date published: 16 December 2014

A group of Rochdale writers are set to pitch short film scripts to a panel of producers at MediaCityUK. They all enrolled on the Emerging Writers Course ran by Firstlight Project.

This course taught a group unemployed people the craft of writing for the big screen. With the expert guidance of industry standard tutors, the students set about writing a 10 minute short film script. The best script chosen by the panel of producers will be made in a short film by professional filmmakers.

In conjunction with the Workers Educational Association (WEA) and CommuniTeaRoom CIC, the course has given this group of budding writers a chance to kick start their careers, as they gain skills and a newfound confidence in their abilities.

Ruth Yasmeen, Operations Manager at Firstlight and one of the tutors on the course, said: “It is a testament to the participant’s hard work and dedication to their craft that they have produced such high quality scripts. We’re all looking forward to the media city pitch, where their talents will be on display to industry professionals.”

Firstlight Project is a community interest company offering filmmaking and media courses to social excluded and isolated groups in the boroughs of Greater Manchester.
