Become a volunteer with Greater Manchester Fire and Rescue Service

Date published: 31 October 2014

Greater Manchester Fire and Rescue Service has around 400 volunteers who give up their time to help support the community.

They help the Service in many areas including helping people in the community clean-up after they have had a fire, carrying out cycle patrols looking for fire hazards, becoming cadet instructors to support young people and more general activities.

If you can spare some time to support the work of the fire service, visit the website www.manchesterfire.gov.uk and see how you can lend a hand.

Chairman of Greater Manchester Fire and Rescue Authority, Councillor David Acton, said: “Since the volunteering programme started in 2008 volunteers have donated around 200,000 hours of their own time to help us – which smashed the original target set in 2011 of reaching 100,000 hours by April 2014.

“GMFRS has created a long-lasting pathway of skills development and by joining us as a volunteer your opportunities really could be endless.”

If you are interested in becoming a volunteer you can apply until Sunday 30 November by visiting:
