Huge bonfire for Rochdale

Date published: 30 October 2014

Families, children and groups of friends gathered on Cronkeyshaw Common this evening (Thursday 30 October) for a huge bonfire and spectacular firework display.

The second council organised bonfire of the week saw hundreds of people gather on the common to enjoy the event.

Sarah Cross who attended the event with her daughter said: “I think its great. We live in Shawclough now so it was easy to come to and my daughter is four years old now so she understands what was going on. It’s got a real family atmosphere to the whole event.”

Aly Howells said: “Its good. A lot of people are still coming so that’s a good sign. This is a tradition for me because I used to come as a child and now I am bringing my children to the same event. It’s a shame there is no funfair here any more though.”

Mrs Kershaw who lives just around the corner said: “We usually watch the fireworks from the back bedroom but we thought we would bring the children to come and see the bonfire. They really enjoyed it. It’s a good event.”

As well as council organised bonfires, other organisations have organised bonfires planned.
