Springhill Hospice has scooped the title of ‘best hospital grounds’ for the third time at the North West in Bloom awards.

Held on Friday 24 October at Southport Theatre and Convention Centre, Springhill Hospice won the award for the third consecutive year.

Head Gardener Nick Dent said: “It was great to win our category again this year which is testament to all of the hard work that the garden team put in all year round, most of which are volunteers.

“The day shows what fantastic projects are going on in the North West improving local communities and a number were from the Rochdale borough.”

The event was attended by Nick Dent, John Johnson (Support Services manager) and garden volunteers John Herbert, Julie Whitworth and Robin Walker.

John Herbert said: “It was an inspiring day and a privilege to take part and to meet so many enthusiastic people.”

The gardens are much appreciated by patients and visitors all year round and now the new vegetable garden is producing vegetables to be used in patient meals.

The Hospice is planning on holding a garden open day in August 2015.
