David Taylor sentenced for secretly taking photos of woman on the toilet

Date published: 29 October 2014

David Taylor, of Ansdell Road, Rochdale, has been given a 13 week prison sentence, suspended for 12 months, and has been ordered to be put on the sex offenders list for seven years after it was found that he was storing dozens of explicit photos on his phone – including pictures of women on the toilet.

Taylor, 39, Rochdale was accused of spying on women using the toilets of a pub in May.

Bury Magistrates Court heard that Taylor, who was with a group of friends, which included the victim, had been taking photos on his phone all night.

The victim’s boyfriend noticed Taylor taking photos of the group on his mobile phone and thought he was taking photos of his partner’s cleavage. The victim then went to use the toilet in the pub but used the disabled toilets because the women’s was closed.

It is understood that whilst she was sat on the toilet, next to a frosted window which was slightly open, a face appeared at the window. She thought it was someone messing about but her partner could see Taylor looking through.

CCTV footage then captured Taylor unlocking the toilet door with a radar key – a key which unlocks more than 9,000 disabled toilets in the UK - and walking in.

Police checked through Taylor’s phone and found hundreds of photos including 12 from that evening – four of those were of the victim.

There were pictures on Taylor’s phone from July 2013 until May this year. Pictures included various photos of females and males - several appeared to be taken below skirt level of females towards their genitalia.

In a statement read out in court, the victim, who cannot be named for legal reasons, described herself as being “shocked” and “mortified” and added: “It’s not something I would expect to happen.”

Taylor was also ordered to pay the victim £500 compensation as well as £580 costs.
