Hospice shops given a makeover

Date published: 28 October 2014

Improvement work is being carried out to Springhill Hospice’s shops around the borough.

RBH is providing the practical support after its members again voted for the hospice to be their charity of the year.

As part of its commitment RBH will be carrying out a number of fundraising activities for the hospice - and helping its stores to offer an even more welcoming environment to those who volunteer or shop in them.

Joiner Matt Heaney is part of the RBH Contracts team which has already been out to the shop in Littleboroughto fit new lighting at the front as well as a new back door and windows and upstairs toilet.

Building surveys have been carried out at the hospice’s shops in Rochdale, Heywood and Middleton with work set to take place soon.

Matt Heaney said: “The shops do a wonderful job in raising funds for Springhill Hospice to carry out its vital work and we are delighted to be helping them in this way.

“As a mutual society our members are always looking for ways of using our resources to benefit the community and it is very satisfying to know that we have been able to provide such direct support to the hospice.”

Sarah Lee Ford, Springhill Hospice Income Services Manager, said: "I am delighted that once again we have been chosen by RBH to be the charity of the year, the work they are offering in the shops is fantastic.

“Over £500k is raised each year in our charity shops which goes directly to provide patient care for the hospice leaving very little money left for the upkeep of our shops.

“For the tradesmen to come in and offer this service for us takes the pressure off and allows us to continue to raise the much needed funds for the hospice."
