Rochdale Literature and Ideas Festival: Liz Kershaw

Date published: 26 October 2014

Liz Kershaw returned to Rochdale this afternoon (Sunday 26 October) to be part of the Rochdale Literature and Ideas Festival.

Liz, who was born and raised in Rochdale, has had a successful career in radio and came to the festival to talk about her life and work.

Speaking about the festival, Liz said: “I am pleased to have been invited. I think because I am a local girl and I am now an author, it is nice to be a part of. I can see that it is a top notch event and is something that Rochdale should be proud of.”

Liz has recently released her book ‘The Bird and the Beeb’ and spoke to audiences candidly about the book as well as lifting the lid on the BBC and the real stories behind the headlines.

In reference to the title of her book, Liz said: “A lot of people were suggesting titles to me and then one morning I woke up at 5am and it just came to me. It tied everything together and fit really well.”

Liz’s talk was held in the Hollingworth Suite at Number One Riverside and an audience the filled the room to hear her tales.

In response to her session at the festival, Liz said: “We talked for about 55 minutes in total and then we had some questions from the audience but we had to wrap up after another six minutes. It was just starting to get juicy as well but it was good and it was an honest talk.”

Liz was born in Littleborough and is not afraid to talk about her roots. She added: “I was invited to the festival because I was born in Rochdale and I am proud of that.”
