Deeply Vale box set launched

Date published: 23 October 2014

The Deeply Vale box set, a comprehensive anthology of Deeply Vale material, was launched at a special launch event on Saturday 18 October.

The box set, which comprises of a book and six discs of music, has been put together by Chris Hewitt, who stage managed the Deeply Vale Festivals in the seventies.

Speaking about the event, Chris said: “It went really well and was a really good event.”

Held in The Baum, around 50 people attended the launch with more people gathering downstairs.

“We managed to squeeze around 50 people into the upstairs of The Baum and then there were more people downstairs who we couldn’t fit in so we met with them afterwards. There was a really good response to the whole thing,” added Chris.

Chris was joined by Dave Smith and Andy Sharrocks to give talks to the audience. Chris, Dave and Andy are the three surviving members of the original five who organised the festivals.

Chris added: “Based on the success of the launch and of the book, because of the amount of requests that the Literature and Ideas Festival had for tickets, they have said we can hold another event after the festival.”

Chris also plans to hold an event next year to celebrate music, culture and art of the borough.

He said: “The event will be held at Heywood Civic Centre on Friday 20 March and will be a celebration of Rochdale and Heywood Music, Culture and Art. It will be an exhibition and concert and will go ahead next year.”
