Rochdale Ramblers celebrate 20th anniversary

Date published: 21 October 2014

Walking group, Rochdale Ramblers celebrated their 20th anniversary on Sunday 19 October.

The group, which formed on 19 October 1994, celebrated their anniversary with an eight mile walk.

Since the group was formed 20 years ago it has grown to over 230 members.

Derek Clutterbuck, one of the group’s founders and 2014 Ramblers award winner said: “It was great to see so many people for the 20th Anniversary walk. Thank you to all of the people over the years that have led walks and helped organise the group.”

Earlier this year Derek was the winner of the Ramblers Volunteer Best Individual Achievement Award 2014. Derek, 82, has been a dedicated Ramblers member since 1982 and was one of the five original founders of the Rochdale Ramblers.

He is a regular walk leader but his main passion is the maintenance of the footpath network around Rochdale and he has worked tirelessly to achieve that.

Roy Thorniley, Footpath and Countryside Secretary for the group, said: “It was a good day. We had a good turn out with about 31 members for the walk.”
