Claire James in running for national honour

Date published: 18 September 2014

Claire James has been shortlisted to be 24 Housing magazine’s Tenant Champion for her years of sterling service to the residents of Smallbridge after being nominated by RBH.

Her many contributions to the community have included running homework, luncheon and computer clubs, organising the RBH Junior Wardens and helping people in the neighbourhood escape fuel poverty by switching to cheaper suppliers.

The award is a fitting tribute to Claire who has recently announced she is stepping down from her role after securing a new job

Ruth Camm, RBH Communities First Co-ordinator, said: “We are all incredibly proud of Claire and her success in getting through to the final of the awards is totally deserved.
“She has been the life and soul of her community and done so much for people of all ages.

“As a mutual organisation we are committed to supporting tenants in improving their neighbourhoods and Claire provides a wonderful example of just how much can be achieved.

“We would love to hear from anyone who can spare just a little time to run any of the activities that Claire set up.”

Claire said: “I am really thrilled to be shortlisted for this award. Smallbridge is becoming a place we can all be proud to live in again - it has got a great sense of community about it and that is due to everyone doing their bit and taking pride in where they live.

“I hope that other people will come forward to run activities. As well as being very satisfying it will enable you learn lots of new skills that could help you find work.”

The 24 Housing Tenant Champion will be announced at a special ceremony in Birmingham on 6 November.

Smallbridge residents who would like to help organise community activities can get support and advice from the RBH Community Action Team on 01706 273977.
