Record attempt at largest ice bucket challenge

Date published: 17 September 2014

Rochdale is hoping to set a world record by completing the largest ice bucket challenge at the Sandbrook Crown Carvery.

The challenge, which is in aid of Springhill Hospice, follows on from the craze of the summer where nominated people have a bucket of ice water thrown over them in aid of charity.

Mark Lynas, from the Sandbrook Crown Carvery, said: “Someone from the hospice approached us about the challenge and asked us if it was something we would like to do. We are already holding fundraising events on the day anyway so the ice bucket challenge is just on top of what else is going on.”

The restaurant often raises money for Springhill Hospice with all proceeds on the day going to the charity. Mark added: “They are a local charity and are a worthwhile cause. They are just round the corner from us as well.”

Mark now hopes to get as many people involved as possible and hopes to set the record for the challenge.

“I don’t know if there is a record set or if there is one to beat but I know this is fairly new so there might not even be one. We could ultimately set the record. If we get 50 people to do it then that is £100 for the hospice so it would be great to get as many people on board as possible,” said Mark.

As well as the ice bucket challenge, a quiz, tombloa and a live band will be also be taking place.

The challenge will take place on Thursday 25 September at 8:30pm.

Those who want to get involved are asked to turn up on the day with a minimum £2 donation being given. Participants are being advised to bring a spare t-shirt and a hand towel for after the challenge.
