Fundraiser raises money for Brain Tumour Charity

Date published: 16 September 2014

A fundraising walk around Hollingworth Lake on Sunday (14 September) has raised money for The Brain Tumour Charity.

Stevie Stott arranged the walk to raise money for the charity after her dad was diagnosed with a brain tumour in May this year.

She said: “It was a really good day and the walk was really good. It was a nice day as well so that helped.”

Altogether around 70 people got involved.

The Brain Tumour Charity is the UK’s largest dedicated brain tumour charity, committed to fighting brain tumours on all fronts. The charity funds scientific and clinical research into brain tumours and offers help and support for those affected.

Stevie added: “We found out that from the money raised by cancer research, only 1.9% goes to helping brain tumours. The majority of the money goes to lung and breast cancer. I’m not saying that the money shouldn’t go to them but with children affected by brain tumours, we wanted to help a charity that is dedicated to them.”

Stevie’s dad has recently undergone six weeks of radiotherapy treatment at the Christie and is now having two chemo shots a day for the next five weeks.

“Everyone at the Christie was amazing. They were brilliant. Now we just have to wait for the results,” said Stevie.

A second fundraising event for the charity will be held on Saturday 27 September and will be a charity night including a raffle, an auction and music. Stevie’s step sister has also recently raised money for the charity by completing a boot camp.

Money raised from the walk around Hollingworth Lake and the upcoming charity night will be put together and given to the charity.
