Appeal after person seen on the wrong side of bridge

Date published: 01 September 2014

Police are appealing for the public's help to trace a person who was seen on the wrong side of a bridge in Heywood.

At about 10.15pm on Friday 29 August 2014, police were called by a passing motorist who had seen a person on the wrong side of the Queens Park Bridge. They appeared to be leaning towards the water.

Officers then attended and searched the area, but no trace of anyone could be found.

Police are now appealing to either that person or for any members of the public who may be able to assist the investigation with the person's whereabouts to come forward.

The only description was that the person was wearing a blue hooded top. It is unclear if they are a man or a woman.

Detective Inspector Andy Duncan said: "From the initial account we were given, we believe either a man or a woman was on the wrong side of the bridge leaning towards the water. However when we attended we could not find any trace of anyone.

"Our focus is on finding this person safe and well and we cannot rule out that they have either entered the water and been carried some distance, or are elsewhere and incapacitated and in need of help.

"Equally, it is entirely possible this person has returned home and is safe and well.

"So, I would ask if that person is safe and well and they are reading or hearing this appeal that they make contact with police and lets us know they are ok.

"Alternatively, if you have a loved one who is missing and is known to have a blue hooded top then please get in touch with police as a matter of urgency."

Anyone with information is asked to call police on 101.
