Party time at Barnett Court

Date published: 26 July 2014

It was party time at Barnett Court in Heywood after National Lottery funding provided new tables and chairs to give the lounge area a stylish look.

Residents at the sheltered housing scheme in Coomassie Street held a celebratory evening to mark the arrival of the furniture which has transformed the appearance of the room.

A total of £8,976 of funding was awarded which will also be used to provide a large television screen for the lounge wall.

At the party there was a buffet, drinks and live music as the tenants enjoyed the comfort of the new chairs.

One resident who was impressed by the look of the lounge was Anne Shaw, who said: “The new furniture is great - it’s very welcoming. We’re now really proud to bring visitors into the lounge when they come to see us.”

Warden Sue Buck added: “We’re very pleased with the new tables and chairs which have given the room a fabulous new look. The chairs are very comfortable and all of the furniture is very much appreciated by the residents.”

The lottery funding was won with the help of RBH Customer Involvement Officer Helen Kelsall who was presented with a beautiful basket of flowers at the party by the residents.

Helen said: “The new furniture is a real boost to the volunteer group here at Barnett Court in their efforts to encourage residents to come out of their flats, have a chat and join in with activities and events.”
